Residual scale and dust may reduce laser cutting quality, compromise welding consistency, influence coating adhesion and generate surface defects during forming or painting. At the same time, loose particles carried through the processing line may accelerate wear on leveling rolls, knives and other critical machine components, increasing maintenance requirements and reducing equipment lifetime.
Surface preparation therefore contributes not only to product quality, but also to plant reliability and overall production efficiency.
Surface Preparation Is a Process
One of the most common misconceptions is that effective scale removal depends simply on installing a brushing unit.
In reality, surface preparation is the result of several integrated operations working together.
Proper strip leveling plays a fundamental role by helping release oxide particles that remain firmly attached to the material. Once loosened, these contaminants can be removed much more effectively by the brushing system. Leveling also improves strip flatness, ensuring uniform contact between the brushes and the material across the entire strip width.
Dust extraction is equally important. Removing detached particles immediately prevents contamination from spreading throughout the production line, protecting both the processed material and critical machine components.
