Tube and Pipe Finishing Lines

To completion of the electro-welded tube mills or also supplied individually as implementation of existing plants, FIMI provides machines for the finishing of steel tubes with a range diameter from 19 to 608 mm, for thicknesses from 0.5 to 20 mm and lengths from 3 to 15 m, both in-line and off-line, designed to the specific customer’s needs.

 

The management of the working phases is completely automated and can be easily integrated both to the tube lines and to the other components of the line.

 

The range of tube finishing machines supplied by FIMI is among the most complete:

  • Hydraulic tube pressure test units up to 50 MPa (500 bar).
  • Single or multi-head tube end facing units.
  • Tube threading units.
  • Non-destructive control systems.
  • Packing systems.
  • Tube handling units.

API & OCTG READY

Nowadays, the importance of the tube finishing machines has increasingly increased in the market; the adoption of such equipment enables the tubes production of better quality and higher values. FIMI has developed special lines to meet these requirements.

Finishing lines in fact, are fundamental to obtain certified products such as API or OCTG tubes production. All the necessary phases such as end-finishing, hydrostatic testing and non-destructive controls can be managed by FIMI plants that can supply the correct machine for the correct request.

All our finishing units can be installed both online or offline depending on the production capacity, layout restrictions or customer’s requests. These machines are also characterized by flexibility and quality, features that are common to all plants manufactured by FIMI.

The tools for processing the various tube diameters are designed to ensure quick machine set-up and high levels of line productivity. The processing steps are fully automated and easily integrated with FIMI’s tube lines and automatic packaging lines.

Product range

The end-facing unit allows the ends of the tubes to be reworked to create a perfect finish, an internal or external chamfer defined by product specification or in any case necessary for the subsequent hydraulic testing, so as not to damage the seals.

The cycle is performed by levelling the tube on one end, clamping it with vices and then driving the tool that performs the required processing. The system automatically sets itself according to the diameter of the tube and the machining to be carried out.

The movements are all extremely precise and comparable to those of a machine tool.

The pressure test unit enables to verify the correct pressure seal within the tube. 

The test verifies that there are no holes in the weld and is a prerequisite for API products. 

The test is carried out in steps: the tube is first aligned and then washed internally with water to remove residues from previous workings.

The tube is then transferred to the test heads that feed water and then raise the internal pressure to the test pressure, which is then maintained for the time defined by the API specification.

At the end of the test, the tubes are transferred to the drying station where they are tilted to allow the water to escape.

The system then compiles a report of the test by separating the good tubes from the scrap tubes.

The threading unit is used to rework the ends of the tube to create a product-specified internal or external thread.

API products require a tube inspection performed with ultrasound (UST) or flux leakage systems.

These tests must be carried out by moving the tubes from one station to another and performing individual checks. 

FIMI can provide turnkey tube handling system and integration of other machines that perform non-destructive testing.

FIMI packing machines are advanced systems that allow the preparation of square, rectangular and hexagonal bundles of tubes.

Thanks to careful construction, they can stack square, rectangular, round chamfered and hydro-textured tubes directly in line with the production plant, avoiding intermediate stops.

FIMI’s automatic stackers can be in traditional or magnet configuration and are able to pack tubes from 12.7 up to 323.0 mm. with lengths from 3 to 13 m.

They automatically form, weigh, and drain bundles of tubes ready to be packed using manual or automated strapping systems.
